Massive Attack and Portishead teamed up for two performances to raise money for Oxfam’s work in Asia following the tsunami.
A full review of this gig is now available.
The concerts – on Saturday 19 February and Sunday 20 February at the Bristol Academy – were the first time the two bands have shared a stage and many of the artists – which included The Coral and Robert Plant – performed together.
Alas, tickets for the main event sold out within hours of going on sale, but the week before there was be a stunning club night, including live performances from Aspects and Babyhead, and sets from Daddy G (Massive Attack) and Geoff Barrow (Portishead).
All proceeds went to Oxfam who are organising water and sanitation relief in the crisis area.
The events also supported the Make Poverty History campaign, which calls for action by world leaders on the wider issue of poverty, highlighted by the tsunami.
Our very own Benny Littlejohn, who is coordinating Oxfam’s involvement in the events, said:
“The guys from Massive Attack and Portishead have done a fantastic job in pulling all this together. Not only will the concerts help Oxfam raise funds for our life-saving work in Asia, they will also help people understand the underlying causes of poverty, and give them ideas as to how they can make a difference.”
