join musicians in manchester and support oxfam

If you're musically minded, join musicians in Manchester and support Oxfam's campaigns.

Soundcheck is a group of musicians, DJs, bands and orchestras in Manchester who want to make a big noise about Oxfam's campaigns. They're raising awareness through their gigs, websites, newsletters, blogs, MySpace and Bebo pages, flyers, posters... and just about anything else they can think of.

So, if you're musically-minded, and interested in supporting Oxfam's campaigns, then why not get involved? If you're based in Manchester, then contact the campaigns office there (details at the bottom of this page). Even if you're not, you can still raise Oxfam's campaigns using some of the ideas below.

how musicans can support oxfam campaigns
Online
The easiest ways you can support Oxfam campaigns is to add campaign logos or banners to your band websites. You could also add banners or links to your MySpace or Bebo pages, if you've got them. If you've got an e-mail newsletter, tell your fans about the campaign and why you support it - and provide links so they can find out more.

At your gigs

Before the gig, add campaign logos and web addresses to your promotional literature. At the gig itself, put up campaign banners, and have flyers and action cards available - don't worry, we can help you with these! You could also wear a campaign or Oxfam t-shirt when you're up on stage. Talking about the campaign is also important - why not do a shout out on stage?

Local media

You could also get in touch with your local newspaper or radio station to tell them what you're up to and why you're supporting Oxfam. This would involve sending out a simple press release explaining what you're doing, as well as photos and campaign logos.

Downloads
If you or your friends have recorded a song then you could 'donate' it as a download - with all profits going to Oxfam. You could even follow in the footsteps of Birmingham-based Aquila and write a song about the campaign you feel strongly about...
tell us about it
Before your gig, tell us what you're up to and we'll try to plug it on our blog. And afterwards, send us a review with pics of your campaigning and we'll do our best to get it up on the site. We might even be able to send one of Your Say writers to review the event for you...
