Join our world standing record attempt

World Poverty Day, on Tuesday 17 October is the climax of the Stand Up Against Poverty month of action – and we want to make as big a fuss as possible so that world leaders take notice. We’re taking part in the world record attempt for the biggest number of people ever to stand up (against poverty – geddit?). And we need your help to make it happen…

We want as many people as possible to join the “stand” – which will be held in a 24 hour period between 11.00 am on Sunday 15 October and 11.00 am on Monday 16 October.

In order to be counted for the world record attempt, people need to stand for one minute* and someone must read out the Stand Up Against Poverty Pledge – there are very long versions of this, but we reckon you’ll be OK with this:

the pledge

As part of the generation that demands an end to poverty, I stand up:

- for the 30,000 children killed by poverty today

- to insist that governments keep their promises to the poor

- to reach the Millennium Development Goals and aim even higher

- for action, not excuses

- for justice and equality

I stand up against poverty
make it happen

You can organise a Stand Up Against Poverty world record attempt at any time during the 24 hour period. You could hold it anywhere or with anyone – at work or with your mates, down the pub or in your local town hall - or join an event in your area.

If you’re the organiser, you need to count how many people have stood up at your event, and send the details (plus pics and video if possible) to tallen@bond.org.uk or fax (0207) 837 4220.

There’s loads more info about how to do it on these websites:

www.bond.org.uk
www.standagainstpoverty.org.

This could be HUGE so make sure you’re involved… Stand Up Against Poverty.

* People who are unable to stand will be counted as long as they are present at the Stand Up moment and can perform an appropriate action of their choice.
