In October 2007 Oxfam will hold its second meeting for the Oxfam International Youth Partnership (OIYP). This is a global network of young people who work within their communities to create change.
Judging from the accounts of the last meeting, it looks like a brilliant opportunity and loads of fun: 300 like-minded, 18-25 year olds, from all across the world, joined together in Sydney for a week of debate and inspiration.
But it’s not just an opportunity for a party and a trip to Australia – OIYP and its members have an ongoing commitment to social change, so only apply if you’re ready to commit.
Each 18-25 year old will go to the meeting with an idea for a project they want to implement in their community. They will then develop their skills and understanding over the next three years, by talking and sharing with other members of the partnership.
OIYP is a worldwide collaboration and is open to all nationalities, indigenous and ethnic groups. There are no educational requirements - only that you have a strong commitment to your community and its development.
