The day of big red noses is upon us on Friday 11 March – with the catch that this time round it’s also about big red hair!
The theme this year is ‘big hair and beyond’, and everyone is gearing up to do silly things and raise as much money as possible for disadvantaged people in Africa and the UK.
Oxfam will be supporting Comic Relief as usual, and you’ll find red noses, badges and car noses in all our shops.
In 2003 the shops raised £1 million for Comic Relief, and we’re hoping to do even better this time.
What can you do?
For some (ahem) hair-raising ideas on how to get involved with Red Nose Day, visit www.rednoseday.com, or get inspired by GenerationWhy’s fundraising ideas.
Order a copy of the fundraising kit: call 0845 605 8000 (charged at local rate) or order one online at www.rednoseday.com.
Where does the money go?
40 per cent of the money raised through Red Nose Day is allocated to work in the UK and 60 per cent goes directly to work in Africa.
Comic Relief also supports several Oxfam programmes:
- Improving access to markets for fair trade producers in Ghana.
- Developing mobile education programmes with pastoralists in East Africa.
- Challenging negative attitudes within government and the media to asylum seekers in the UK.
- Projects throughout Africa related to the Make Poverty History campaign.
