Women are more charitable than men

Nikki Kane says men should get in touch with their feminine side if they are in with any chance of being more charitable than women.

Suzie: “Yeah, I think women are more charitable because they have more sympathy for people, and because men are lazy!”

Erin: “I’ve never seen that many guys give to charity. Overall I think that girls are more generous.”

Are women more charitable than men? Well, to put it bluntly, yes they are. Traditionally, women are the more caring sex and, although it may reinforce gender stereotypes, there is no denying that women and men are different and these perceptions do have roots in reality.

It's all about emotions
Us girls are often more emotional then men and we tend to show these emotions much more than guys do. This means that women are more affected by disasters and other people's suffering and want to help. Sure, men may put their loose change into a charity tin or take part in a charity football match with their mates, but women regularly give their time and effort as well as their money towards helping people in need.

Lose the image
It seems that men are too scared of losing their 'manly' image and how they'll look in front of their friends to get involved in charity work, because it isn't seen as strong or masculine thing to do. Women on the other hand, care about what's going on in the world and want to make a real difference which means that they get actively involved in campaigning and organising charity events, rather than worrying about their reputation like their cynical male counterparts.

Our survey says
Now I realise that, being a girl, I may be bit biased when it comes to this topic. Oxfam however, is not. Recently, they conducted a survey which shows that women really are more charitable than men, and that it's not just me who thinks so. This survey reveals that women are more inclined to give time to a cause and to take action in campaigns, and also that 26 per cent of females donate money to charity every month, compared to one in five men.

So, the girls are winning in the charity stakes, but it's not too late guys. Forget the masculine image and the cynicism and take a look at what's going on. Get in touch with your caring, feminine side and join us girls in trying to change the world - real men care and aren't afraid to show it!
