Bravo to the Wolverhampton Soroptimists!

Soroptimists in Wolverhampton have collected over 100 bras to support Oxfam's Big Bra Hunt.
The Big Bra Hunt, supported by Helen Mirren, Zoe Ball and Miquita Oliver, aims to collect one million bras. Some will be sold in Oxfam's UK high street shops, but many more will be sold by women in West Africa - where quality bras are hard to come by, and where the money raised will make an amazing difference to the lives of poor communities.
Over the last month, Wolverhampton Soroptimists have been encouraging their friends and family to dig deep in the underwear drawers and donate any unwanted bras. The response has been fantastic - and this morning, they handed over their donations to the local Oxfam shop in Wolverhampton - we couldn't believe how many they had, and how pretty they were too!
Bras are complex to manufacture so very few developing countries have the facilities to make their own. This means that second hand bras are a valuable commodity and one of the most desirable items of clothing in West African second hand clothing markets. Frip Ethique (meaning 'ethical second hand clothing') is a unique project run by Oxfam in Senegal that sorts and trades unsold second hand clothes from the charity's UK shops. The project provides essential employment for disadvantaged women in the area and generates profits which can be invested in
the charity's work.
Soroptimist International is a worldwide organisation that works to promote the interests of women and girls offering service to local, national and international communities. Oxfam and the soroptimists have worked in partnership for a long time and we're delighted that they're continuing to support us with the big bra hunt. To find out more about joining Soroptimist International of Wolverhampton, please call their Membership Secretary on 01902 844132 or visit the website.
Our heartfelt thanks goes to everyone involved.
