Cambridge Oxfam Walk

Cambridge Oxfam Walk

Thanks to everybody who came along to the 45th annual Cambridge Oxfam Walk!

And thanks to all our sponsors and Chilford Manor for hosting the event.

Now its time to forget the weary feet and help us reach our target of £30,000 for Oxfam's humanitarian relief work by collecting your sponsorship and sending it to Oxfam.

Remember that the individual collecting the most sponsorship paid in by 31 July 2012 will win a four-night walking holiday for two in the Lake District kindly donated by Ramblers Countrywide Holidays (terms and conditions apply - see below*).

Paying in your sponsorship

If you setup an online fundraising on Virgin Money Giving the money donated by your sponsors will automatically be sent to Oxfam - you don't  have to do a thing! Just encourage as many people as you can to make a donation on your page.

Otherwise, the easiest way to pay in your sponsorship is via our online paying-in form.

Fundraise

Fundraising made easy

Walkers are asked to raise at least £50 in sponsorship - if every walker achieves this we'll raise over £30,000!

Here are three tips to get you started without breaking a sweat:

Set up an online fundraising page

Quick and easy to use. Just enter your details, how much you hope to raise, and send the link to your family and friends and add it to the bottom of all your emails. You can even add a photo to brighten up your page.

If you prefer the old fashioned method you can download our sponsorship forms to pass to your friends and family.

Matched Giving

Ask the company you work for if they have a matched giving scheme. If they do, ask if they'd be prepared to match the money you raise pound for pound and you could double your sponsorship! If they don't, ask them if they'd be interested in setting one up.

History

On Saturday 22 April 1967, 900 walkers set off on a 27-mile, A130-A11 marathon to Bishop's Stortford to raise money for Oxfam. A year later they repeated the exercise and in 1969 undertook a hike to Bedford - 30 miles along roads with traffic hurtling by!

Since then, the Oxfam Walks around Cambridge have become an annual institution, now less demanding than in those early days, with a greater choice of routes and mainly along footpaths rather than roads, but each year raising money and making a significant contribution to Oxfam.

Where your money goes

Where your money goes

By taking part in the 2012 Oxfam Walk you'll help people all over the world - from Chad to Pakistan, the Middle East to Sri Lanka.

Your sponsorship money will support Oxfam's Emergencies Fund, a life saving tool in helping people recover from natural disaster and conflict. Oxfam works in more than 30 countries to provide clean water and sanitation, health and hygiene care and security for some of the 30 million people affected by conflict or natural disaster every year. Funding such work is essential to reduce death and disease, and to help communities recover from floods, famine, persecution and conflict.

Oxfam makes a real difference to people's lives worldwide but we can't do it without you. £50 pledged by you could pay for a hygienic toilet, vital for preventing the spread of disease in an emergency.
