Fundraising FAQs

If you're unsure about something, it's worth having a look at some of the most common questions we're asked about fundraising.

• How do I pay in funds I have raised?

  Paying in your donation is simple. You can pay it in online or post a cheque payable to Oxfam to: Processing, Oxfam House, 2700 John Smith Drive, Oxford, OX4 2JY. Remember to include a note that this is money you've raised and let us know if you'd like it to go towards a specific appeal.

  Please don't send cash in the post.

• Can I claim Gift Aid on the funds I have raised?

  To claim Gift Aid on your fundraising, we must have the first name or initials, last name, full home address and postcode of each individual donor/sponsor. So please encourage them to tick the Gift Aid box on your sponsorship form when they sponsor you. Without these details we legally can't claim Gift Aid - so be strict with your supporters!

• I'm planning a fundraising event at my school. Can I fundraise for something specific?

  Yes. Through Oxfam Water Week your school can support a specially selected project in Niger, and make a vital difference to the lives of people there. Water Week is an initiative that enables pupils to learn about global issues; to develop their skills and values and enable them to become active global citizens.   You can also fundraise for a particular item in our fantastic Oxfam Unwrapped catalogue. You can buy lots of things from a school desk and chair to a whole classroom! To find out more, give our friendly Oxfam Unwrapped team a call on 0870 410 5030. (Monday to Friday - 9am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday - 10am to 5pm).

• I have raised some money for Oxfam. Where should I send the cheque?

  Thank you so much for raising money for Oxfam, we really appreciate your support! Please send us a cheque made payable to 'Oxfam GB' to:

  It would be great if you could also let us know how you raised the money (and be sure to include your name and address so that we can send you a thank you letter!)

• How does my donation or the money I have raised make a difference?

  In our last financial year (1 March 2010 to 28 February 2011), Oxfam reached 14.5 million people in 57 countries;  2.5 million people got clean water and safer sanitation; we helped get the IMF to cancel Haiti's crippling debt burden - and we couldn't have done it without you!  You can find stories of the life-changing impact of our work here. • Is it possible for my donation or fundraising to go towards emergency response work?

  Yes. You can donate to or fundraise for individual emergency appeals and our Oxfam 365 emergency fund, which helps fund our humanitarian response work worldwide all year round. If you want to collect money for an appeal, you'll find all you need to know on our fundraising for emergencies section.

• Can I use your logo on my website, product or publicity materials?

  You cannot change the logo in any way and you must ensure that you represent Oxfam correctly. Commercial organisations are not permitted to use Oxfam's name or logo without our prior written consent - contact companies@oxfam.org.uk if you want to get a company involved who may want to use our name. • How can I cover the costs of my event?

  There are plenty of ways you can get your fundraising started for minimal costs. Local companies may sponsor your event, donate goods or lend you their services for free. Take a look at our Fundraising tips for simple ways to keep costs low. Our fundraising pack, available to order or download, also has lots of tips on budgeting for an event. 

• Do you offer an online sponsorship facility?

  You can find Oxfam on justgiving.com and virginmoneygiving.com. See our guide to getting sponsored for more information and tips.

• Can I advertise my event on the Oxfam website?

  If you are organising a fundraising event for Oxjam, you can currently advertise it on our website. In 2012, we are also planning to add a site-wide event finder, which will allow you to advertise any event. Watch this space!
