Case studies

Pizza Express

Oxfam's award-winning campaign with PizzaExpress in December 2010 saw Oxfam shop customers issued with a £5 PizzaExpress voucher when they spent £5 or more in an Oxfam shop.  This was supported by menu donations and we enlisted the support of fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, raising funds through sales of her exclusively designed, limited edition campaign t-shirt. 

The mutually beneficial partnership aimed to get more people spending money in Oxfam stores and Oxfam online and also aimed to raise vital income for Oxfam's work across the globe. The campaign helped to differentiate the PizzaExpress brand in a crowded Christmas marketplace and gave them a way to reward customers for their loyalty at Christmas. As a result of the partnership with Oxfam, 73,000 new customers joined the PizzaExpress database (compared to their previous highest opt-in rate of 32,000), traffic to the PizzaExpress website increased by 20% over Christmas and the number of Christmas menus sold increased by 14%. 



PayPal

Paypal supported Oxfam's emergency response to the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 by emailing 5.6 million customers. The email generated £910,000 in 48 hours and 39,000 new supporters for Oxfam.  This partnership was followed in 2011 with the launch of the '100% Giving Campaign' where PayPal supported Oxfam by underwriting the administration costs of each and every donation made by the public.

Marks and Spencer

Oxfam and M&S have been working together since 2008. Our alliance has twice been voted the UK's most admired corporate and charity partnership in the Corporate-NGO Partnership Barometer. 

Today, our 'shwopping' initiative means it is even easier for people to give unwanted clothes a second life. There are two ways to shwop - by donating unwanted clothes to Oxfam at M&S stores, or by donating unwanted M&S clothes to Oxfam shops. By choosing the latter, customers receive £5 off a £35 spend on clothing, home and beauty products in M&S stores and online. Shwopping has already raised around £8 million to date and over the next 12 months we're hoping to raise an extra £2 million - enough to fund our work in Zambia for a whole year.

The Co-operative Bank

Oxfam's partnership with The Co-operative Bank began in 1994, with the launch of the Oxfam credit card. Every time someone opens an account, Oxfam receives a £15 donation as well as a percentage of the total amount spent on that card every year. To date, more than £3 million has been raised by the initiative - making a significant difference to Oxfam's programmes around the world.
