Volunteer Artist and Illustrator (Southampton)

Context:

Oxfam relies on the goodwill of the public to fill its shelves. In order to maximise donations and expand our customer base, it is important to present the shop with an attractive and creative image. We need an enthusiastic and talented person to help us make Oxfam Music stand out on the high street.

Commitment:

We require a creative, resourceful and organised individual to fill the role of Artist for Oxfam Music Southampton. Initially we are asking for a commitment of between 4 and 8 hours a week with workload likely to reduce depending on need.

Key responsibilities:

  • Creating artwork on the shop window and inside to advertise local events connected with the Oxfam Brand and to promote Oxfam Music generally with the aim of increasing donations and our customer base
  • Creating artwork that would be used within the shop for displays. Making the most of space within the store. There is scope to have informal exhibition space for your work as long as it is original, eye catching and related to the cultural products we sell or Oxfam itself
  • Utilising and updating social networking sites with images of the artwork where appropriate i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Klout etc.

  • Liaising with Oxfam Music's marketing team to help them give their message a better visual impact

Skills and competencies:

  •  Good artistic ability is a necessity; this could be from a range of skills including drawing, painting, graphic design etc. The role would be suited to an art student or professional who can dedicate part of their time to Oxfam, but any candidate with ability and motivation is ideal
  • That candidate would also be expected to provide an example(s) of their work before undertaking the role
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated and forward thinking

What this role can offer the volunteer:

  • Display space next to any of the work that you have done if you want to advertise yourself as an artist for hire etc.
  • A rewarding experience working with a world-renowned and respected charity
  • An opportunity to develop and prove your artistic skills and public exposure of your work in the process
  • Making a tangible difference to a worthwhile cause
