Online Fashion Volunteer (Cheadle Hulme)

Oxfam Cheadle Hulme is joining the Oxfam Online Shop!

Oxfam Online Shop sells exciting donated clothes and accessories to a world-wide audience. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in fashion and are available for at least 3 hours a week. You will research and price the donated clothes, shoes and accessories in our fully-equipped new base above the Oxfam Cheadle Hulme shop. You will then write exciting yet accurate descriptions for the items to tempt online buyers.

Know your kitten heel from your court shoe? Your chinos from your denims? Or just want to learn more about online retail? Come and join our team!

It is a great opportunity to join a brand new project and develop basic computer skills. You'll have training with the computer programmes, and be guided through the selling standards for Oxfam Online Shop. There are also opportunities to try photography and dispatching, if you want to expand your volunteer role.

Come and join our exciting new team and help Oxfam to end extreme poverty for good. Unfortunately, our office is on the first floor of the shop and doesn't have any disabled access.

Ideally, you will be able to volunteer at least one day a week.

Key responsibilities:

  • Research items online
  • Price items according to Oxfam Online Guidelines
  • Create interesting descriptions of the items, full of personality, to accurately describe what is being sold.
  • We will provide training for all the equipment and computer software, as well as an introduction and guidance to the Oxfam Online Shop.

Skills and competencies:

  • An interest in fashion
  • Basic IT skills and competency
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, but with guidance and support
  • Technical garment experience would be highly desirable but not essential
  • Some clothing knowledge would be advantageous but not essential
  • Desire to learn or develop new skills in the field of online retail

What this role can offer the volunteer:

  • You will be helping Oxfam in its mission to build a just world without poverty.
  • An opportunity to work for a global organisation.
  • An insight into the processes involved within e-commerce.
  • Opportunity to develop photography and computer skills.
  • References provided for future employers.
  • Lunch and local travel expenses can be reimbursed in line with Oxfam's expense policy.
