Volunteer Assistant Manager (Gateshead)

Context:

In association with Bryony, the shop manager, you will be working to develop and implement a series of actions that maximizes the shop's contribution to Oxfam, with a focus on the people who donate their time and their gifts, as well as creating a presence that ensures that the shop is at the heart of the community of Gateshead.

Frequency: Saturday only from 09.30am- 5.00pm

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the shop in the shop manager's absence
  • Help the shop manager in, leading, managing and planning for the development of a shop team
  • Assisting with the development of solutions to problems and taking actions to solve routine problems
  • Maximize the income from donations, new products and Gift Aid
  • Implement Trading Division's accounting policies and banking procedures
  • To ensure that shop activities reflect Oxfam values and beliefs
  • Keep up to date with Oxfam's internal communications and share any news with the shop team to ensure compliance with current requirements
  • Contribute as a member of the team to achieve agreed objectives to required standards

Skills and competencies:

  • Being computer literate is essential
  • A genuine interest in retail and merchandising
  • A good working knowledge of retail shop sales
  • Reliability and flexibility in agreed working hours
  • Ability to work within agreed shop guidelines
  • The ability to use your own initiative and think creatively
  • Ability to relate with and communicate to customers and shop team members
