Book Volunteer (Gateshead)

Working in the busy Gateshead shop, you will be engaged in sorting, pricing and merchandising the book donations, aiming to maximise sales from the donations we receive to raise as much money as possible for Oxfam.

Frequency: Ideally 1 or more 4-hour shifts per week.

• Sorting books in line with the standards required for the shop
• Pricing books using Oxfam's book sorting guidelines
• Cleaning and preparing books for sale in the shop
• Dealing with deliveries and storing books safely
• Culling of books as required

• A genuine interest in books and reading
• Excellent attention to detail
• Reliability and the ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to work on own initiative

• Valuable retail experience
• Chance to meet and work with a great, friendly team
• Volunteering opportunity with travel and lunch expenses reimbursed where agreed  
• The opportunity to develop and improve the book department in a store, seeing the results of your own ideas is extremely rewarding
