Volunteer Recruiter (Newton Mearns)

Context:

Oxfam's work depends on its volunteers. Each shop has many great volunteers but we always need more, these include specialist volunteers such as fundraisers, supervisors, visual merchandisers, customer service, social networking.

This role concentrates on recruiting volunteers for the shop rather than volunteering within the retail aspects of the shop.

Frequency: Hours are flexible but probably be 4-6 hours per week.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identifying locations and opportunities for recruiting volunteers.
  • Contacting organisations and individuals about volunteering opportunities.
  • Along with the shop manager, create specific volunteer roles and advertise them.
  • Along with shop manager, assess and interview potential volunteers.
  • Some associated administration, eg. Checking references.

Skills and competencies:

  • Experience of HR/Recruitment is desirable but not essential (training given).
  • An enthusiasm for Oxfam's work and helping others get involved is important.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work on own initiative to seek out opportunities.
  • Ability to keep information confidential is essential.
