Around the world poor people are working hard to escape poverty
Yet, the European Union is using its power to undermine them. It’s pushing governments of 76 developing countries into signing unfair trade agreements – by 1 January 2008. These countries know that the treaty will be binding in more than one sense of the word. They will be powerless to support their own farmers and fledgling producers – and to protect them from unfair competition. That could cause more people to become trapped in poverty.
You have the power to tell Gordon Brown to persuade his European colleagues to think again. The EU should have the political will to ensure that all trade agreements with developing countries are fair and just.
