Viral video competition

Shorbanu in her previous land

And your chance to win a flip-cam

This is competition is now closed. Thanks to all who took part.

We are asking people and groups across the UK to create and share online videos that promote The Wave and alert viewers to the human impact of climate change. The video with the highest number of views wins a spanking new flip video camera to use to film your day at The Wave and to document future campaigns.

To enter, your video must promote The Wave on the 5 December and include the Oxfam Wave page. Then upload your video to YouTube and email us the link.

The competition closes at noon on 27 November and winners will be selected across the UK, from each of the three nations; England, Scotland and Wales.

Play your part in making this the biggest shout against climate change the UK has ever seen by helping us to get 100,000 people to The Wave.

Editing/acting experience desirable, but not essential

Here’s a few tips for online film making from some other novices… (us!):

  • Most digital cameras have video functions (look for the logo that looks like an old fashioned reel-to-reel video camera).
  • Spread your film far and wide via links on Facebook/ Twitter and blogs.
  • See if local bloggers/journalists or notable people are interested in promoting the video or creating a traditional media story about your film, the competition and The Wave.
  • There is lots of free video editing software available on the web – try www.videospin.com or Microsoft 'Movie Maker', which is standard with Microsoft Windows.
  • If you are using music then think about copyright – lots of videos on YouTube get removed because they don't have permission to use the music they have uploaded. We've used www.incompetech.com in the past to get free music.
  • Give people a laugh – humour gets views!
  • Keywords to help your video come up in website searches – 'climate change', 'Oxfam' and your town/city name are a good few to start with.
  • Get creative and work Oxfam's message that 'Climate change cost lives. Let's sort it Here and Now' into your video.
