On Whiteband day 2006 over 23 million people stood up against poverty and joined a worldwide call for action against poverty. This year we're aiming for even more.
On 15 October and 16 October 2006, over 23.5 million people from every corner of the globe stood up against poverty for Whiteband Day. They rose from sitting or kneeling to a standing position for one minute and set a new World Record as the 'largest mobilisation of people in the history of Guinness World Record Breaking'!

Through bringing together a diverse range of groups and organisations, Whiteband Day gave people the strength and space to tell world leaders in no uncertain terms: 'We have to end poverty. We will not accept any more excuses.'

Already, many leaders have taken note of this massive outcry, and where promises have been met, change has happened, but much more needs to be done.
