The Language Factory is a small translation company who first approached Oxfam in 2005 wanting to support our work. Since then, they have given valuable support to a range of Oxfam programmes, including providing education to children in Tanzania, funding water cisterns in Brazil, and contributing to a peace-building project in Rwanda.

In 2007 the company decided to support our livelihoods project in Malawi, supporting communities affected by HIV and AIDS in the country.  In November 2007, a representative from The Language Factory travelled with a group of Oxfam donors to Malawi to see first hand how her company had made a real difference to people’s lives.

The Language Factory continues to share programme information with both staff and clients, and have attributed a rise in their sales to their support for Oxfam.

Just over two years since their first donation, the Language Factory has now given over £60,000 to Oxfam – a fantastic contribution and they continue to support us.

“I will always remember my trip to Malawi with Oxfam.  One of the things that stood out for me most was how a small, low-cost intervention can dramatically change the life of a family.  A goat, when it produces kids and milk can provide a family with an asset, which could help to send a child to school; a bucket of maize seed and fertilizer can lift a farmer out of poverty and guarantee a food supply for the coming year; a bicycle ambulance can literally save the life of someone suffering from HIV and AIDS related illnesses who urgently needs to get to a hospital.

The Malawians we met have an incredibly positive attitude to life and are convinced that with Oxfam's help they will be able to cope with and overcome the challenges that they face. It was an incredibly inspiring trip to meet some incredibly inspiring people.” Shona Lockhart, Director, The Language Factory.
