Oxfam Festival Shop

The Oxfam Festival Shop at Glastonbury 2007. Photo: Pete Axford. The now-familiar Oxfam festival shop was first seen at Glastonbury 2003. Back then, we were new to selling at festivals –  we had no idea what stock to take or how much. So we packed everything except the kitchen sink, took a deep breath and got down to business. We returned with a whopping £7,000!

Five years on, the Oxfam Festival Shop can be found at all the major music festivals across the UK. We’ve learned that things that aren’t always popular in our high street shops, often go down a storm at festivals. In fact, feather boas, basques, knitted blankets, saris, kilts, and all manner of outlandish fancy dress are some of our best sellers!  Altogether, we’ll be aiming to shift around 50 tonnes of stuff this year, including:

  • 1,000 pairs of wellies
  • 2,000 waterproof jackets
  • 700 wedding dresses
  • 700 dinner jackets

Waterproofs: indispensable. Photo: Toby Adamson. Our team of volunteers put in more than 800 hours over the entire season to keep the shop going 18 hours a day. But it’s well worth the superhuman effort – the Oxfam Festival Shop raises around £100,000 every year!

So please do come along and have a good rummage – although try to get in there early – the best things go fast.

And not forgetting the Oxfam Marquee…

The Oxfam Marquee is also back in tent-town – the perfect pitstop and oasis of calm to inspire tired festival goers. Pop in for a chat and a Fairtrade cuppa – or just to recharge your batteries on our giant beanbags, and deckchairs.
