Gift Aid
Just by getting your sponsor to tick the Gift Aid box on your justgiving site or your sponsorship form, you have instantly earned Oxfam an extra 28p for every £1 they donate.
How come?
Well, this little tick enables us to reclaim the Income or Capital Gains Tax equal to the value of your sponsor’s donation to you.
However, the Gift Aid part of your sponsorship cannot be added to your fundraising total, because the tax is not claimed back until quite a while after your event is finished.
Things to check
Number one, is that your sponsor is a UK tax payer.
The second, is that they complete your form in full – name, address, and agreement with the Gift Aid declaration.
And finally, when you collect the money you must complete the date box on the form, to confirm that we’ve received the money that was pledged.
