About Oxjam
Oxjam is Oxfam's month-long music festival with a difference: you make it happen. Each year hundreds of music-lovers like you get involved, all across the UK, to raise money for Oxfam by holding their own events. Oxjam will take place once more across the UK in October 2009. Getting involved is simple and this year it's bigger and better than ever.
How to get involved
Sounds like you? The firts step is to sign up as an Organiser, Performer or helper and get started with your own music event for Oxfam - little or large - to make music, raise money and help end poverty. You don't need a big venue - the beauty of Oxjam is that hundreds of small events make one huge party. And that adds up to one big difference.
Or jump right to the heart of it
Organising an event is a great way to be part of a nationwide movement fighting poverty with music. But if you want to be even more involved, from Oxfam's offices or shaping the scene in your own town, check out our latest volunteer vacancies for some really exciting opportunities to get on board and get great experience at the heart of the nation's biggest fundraising music festival.
What's it all for?
Oxjam is about raising money for Oxfam to tackle poverty all over the world. Holding your own Oxjam fundraising event means that you'll be helping people to earn a living; get an education; gain better access to health care and fresh water; and to grow more food. Every pound you raise counts.
If you want to get a bit closer, have a look at this video in which DJ Shadow visits Oxfam's work in Kenya and exchanges thoughts about music with some of the locals.

What's it like being involved?
Want the inside story? In this short video, Oxjam volunteer Sophie Macken gives an insight into her experience and how she felt about it.

Don't want to organise a big gig?
You don't have to! An Oxjam event can be anything that uses music to raise money for Oxfam. Events of all kinds join the line-up - from busking and dinner parties to big city-wide festivals. And whether you raise £10 or £1000, the money you raise allows Oxfam to keep on fighting poverty around the world.
You could even...
Busk, like Belle & Sebastian's Stevie and Stuart...

How does Oxfam support me?
As an Oxjam organiser, you'll get access to all our online resources - a toolkit packed with tips and advice, web banners, posters, flyers and guidelines. There are also regional Oxjam teams now in place across the country, so you'll also be able to meet up with other volunteers for advice and support. Your regional team will also help to match you to performers or helpers they know of too. You can also contact the central Oxjam team on oxjam@oxfam.org.uk .
