Volunteer roles
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Trailwalker UK 2008. We would love to have you as part of the team! Please find details below on the specific roles at Trailwalker UK.
Trailwalker Start Team
The start team is involved in setting up and running Oxfam’s involvement at the Start area, at Queen Elizabeth Country Park (near Petersfield, Hampshire). The atmosphere at the start area is amazing – including the Gurkha cultural show and dinner – not to be missed! Your task will include welcoming our wonderful participants, handing out registration packs, selling food vouchers and merchandise, exchanging t-shirts and helping with questions and directions. It is a crucial part of the event; enhancing the participants’ whole experience, and ensuring the event is successful and safe.

Trailwalker Checkpoint Teams
There are 9 checkpoints along the 100km route that act as pit-stops for the participants.
Volunteers stationed at checkpoints are involved in supporting participants along the route and ensuring they are encouraged, congratulated, happy and motivated to continue. This will include cheering participants as they arrive at the checkpoint, helping to distribute donated goods and chatting with Support Crews. The checkpoints are run by the Gurkhas and their main focus is ensuring the safety and welfare of teams. Volunteers are vital to ensuring that the teams are supported all along the route and feel looked after by Oxfam. The checkpoints are a great opportunity to be a part of the Trailwalker experience – you’ll see first hand the trials and tribulations of the walkers!

Trailwalker Finish Team
The carnival atmosphere at the finish area will inspire you to cheer for the walkers as they cross the finish line and congratulate them as they are receiving their medal or waiting for their massage. The finish team is involved in setting up and running Oxfam’s involvement at the Finish, at Brighton Racecourse. This will include cheering and congratulating participants, assisting Support Crews and guests, taking part in medal presentations and assisting the commentator. The Finish is the real big finale to the event and your help is needed in providing an amazing lasting memory for all involved.

Sports Massage/Physiotherapists and Podiatrists
Trailwalker UK is a major physical challenge and we would like to ensure the teams are able to complete the course and relax afterwards. The teams will suffer from muscular aches and pains and very sore feet, including blisters. We are looking for a team of specialists to look after them! Students are very welcome to join us, however we need to ensure you are covered by your insurance.
