One resolution you'll want to stick to
New year's resolutions are hard enough to keep without the added faff of having to remember them all. Luckily, there's one promise you can keep that covers all the important ones. Seize the moment and volunteer for Oxfam, because it all adds up to one great experience:
1. Helping others
Volunteering for Oxfam comes with one simple but amazing guarantee: you'll be part of a huge global effort to deliver aid in emergencies, better education and health care, and much more to millions of poor people in over 70 countries. Not bad for an afternoon's work!
2. Learning new things
Volunteering's also a two -way thing. Oxfam benefits from your time, energy, skills and commitment. And you can develop your CV and experience – from computer skills and office experience to retail and customer service skills. Everyone's a winner.
3. Meeting new people
Say hello to Cherry, Tahera, Wayne and Marete. Oxfam’s shop network alone has around 20,000 volunteers from all walks of life, ages, and backgrounds. That's what makes working for us so special and interesting! We've all got one thing in common, though: a desire to make poverty a thing of the past.
4. Doing more recycling
Recycling is great but reusing is even better for the environment. Volunteering in an Oxfam shop is like working in a mini-recycling centre on the high street. Our volunteers sort and price items donated by the public to get the best value. That means more money to fight poverty, less landfill. It’s a win-win!
5. Keeping fit
We can't promise the sort of fitness you get from a good workout, but if you volunteer for us we'll certainly keep you active doing things like sorting goods in a shop, dealing with customers, or if you volunteer at a festival, or at an event, the list of things you could be busy with is as inexhaustible as you are!
