What is great about MEEECIS?

MEEECIS is a remarkable region, encompassing many different cultures, lifestyles, and traditions. From Albania to Tajikistan, from Russia to Yemen, the region is a crossroads of three major religions, with a fascinating history and huge diversity among its peoples. In this region people have faced big changes in recent years, with loss of security and wealth.

Why should someone come to work in your region? What are the best bits?

The region is at the centre of the political world, and always in the media spotlight. Oxfam’s programmes here are innovative and dynamic, and the teams are diverse and highly professional. Working here you will help to build a better future, to challenge conventional thought, develop perspectives, and help deliver effective ways of making change.

What are the key areas of focus for your regional programmes? What are people likely to get involved in?

At the national level, Oxfam engages with governments and large civil-society organisations to campaign and advocate for policy change. Locally, Oxfam works very closely with the communities to deliver appropriate projects to help lift people out of poverty. We focus on development work, on helping women achieve equality with men, and on preparing for possible disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, drought, and armed conflict. In addition, we try to help improve local organisations to ensure that any solutions are sustainable and lasting.
