Welcoming the appointment of Justine Greening as the new Secretary of State for International Development, Oxfam Chief Executive, Barbara Stocking said: "Justine Greening takes charge of the Department of International Development at a time when the value of Britain's overseas aid budget has never been more apparent. British aid is saving countless lives in humanitarian emergencies across the globe - from Somalia to the Sahel - and is vastly improving the lot of millions more, by funding vital development work in numerous fields, particularly healthcare and education.

"Andrew Mitchell has been a powerful champion, both home and abroad, for the value of British aid and Oxfam would like to thank him for his stout defence of Britain's aid budget at a time when other areas of government spending have been cut back. We look to the new Secretary of State to show the same support for Britain's aid commitments and the same desire to maintain Britain's leading role in the field of international development."
