In response to Mondelez's announcement today that they will take steps to address inequality facing women in their cocoa supply chains following pressure from consumers as part of international aid agency Oxfam's Behind the Brands Campaign, Penny Fowler, Head of Oxfam Private Sector Policy said:
"Promises made today by the world's biggest chocolate maker, Mondelez international to address inequality for women in their cocoa supply chains, have the potential to improve the lives of millions of the world's poorest people.
"It comes hot on the heels of commitments from Mars and Nestle who last month also agreed to address these issues following pressure from consumers after our Behind the Brands campaign exposed their failure to adequately protect women in their supply chains.
"Oxfam will continue to work with all three companies to ensure these pledges are turned into measurable actions that will mean the lives of women cocoa suppliers are changed for the better."
