Frequently asked questions

  • What should my fundraiser be?

Quite simply it can be whatever you want it to be. Just do whatever you love to do, or would love to do, with your friends, family or colleagues and fundraise to make a huge difference to families living in poverty worldwide. Whether you're crafty or sporty, want to get fit or just want to have a slice of cake and a cuppa with your friends, there are hundreds of ways you can get involved. Take a look at our fundraising ideas page or read one of our blogs and you'll get inspiration from our other amazing hosts.

  • What will I receive after I’ve registered for my event?

You'll receive a free fundraising guide in the post full of top tips and great ideas to get you started with your fundraising event.

  • How can I order fundraising materials?

This year we've reviewed our costs and environmental responsibilities and so we are putting all of our fundraising materials on the website to be downloaded. That way you'll only need to print out what you need, and more money will go towards the work of Oxfam. If you do require printed materials then please email gettogether@oxfam.org.uk

  • Where can I download fundraising material?

All the tools you need to start planning your event is available on our downloadable materials page.

  • Do I have to raise a certain amount?

No. By joining us as a host you're part of ensuring that together we raise as much money as possible to support mothers living in poverty around the world. So whether you raise £5, £50 or £5000, you'll be helping to give mothers around the world the lift they need to change their family's future for good. And don't forget that every penny you raise will be doubled by the UK Government, so there's never been a better time to fundraise.

  • Why am I fundraising for mothers?

Mothers are some of the world's most powerful people. They are our teachers, our carers and our role models. Yet many live in poverty. Often unsung and unpaid, mothers around the world are shaping entire generations - unconditionally.

By supporting Oxfam's Mother Appeal, you will give mothers worldwide the lift they need to use their incredible power to change the future. Because when we lift a mother she will not only lift herself. She will lift her family and her community. Generation after generation. For good.

  • How does my fundraising make a difference?

Oxfam puts women and women's rights at the heart of all we do. Right now, mothers around the world are being held back from using their incredible power to change the future. But it doesn't have to be that way. Fundraising for Oxfam's Mother Appeal will help vulnerable mothers to start a chain reaction that will lift lives for good. This difference you make can be huge, for example:

    • £17 could run a group to help 25 mothers learn more about their rights in Nepal
    • £31 could provide seeds and tools to help a mother change her family's future in Malawi.
    • £57 could give six mothers a mobile phone so they can get a fair price for their crops in Cambodia

Visit the Mother Appeal web pages for more details on our work.

  • How is my money doubled?

The UK government will match the amount you raise for the Mother Appeal from your fundraiser, doubling the difference you're making. It covers fundraising events taking place between 31 December and 31 March 2014 and money paid in by 31 May 2014, up to a maximum total value raised of £5 million.

  • How do I pay in my fundraising?

In your fundraising guide there is a page which explains the process of paying in. You can pay in your total fundraising amount online or via post.

  • Can I Gift Aid my fundraising?

Yes please! If you or your guests are UK tax payers then Oxfam can claim an extra 25% on your donation. Simple download the Gift Aid form from our website, and ask each guest at your event to fill in their details when they are making a donation, making sure that they tick the gift aid box. As long as their details are clear and correct we'll be able to claim an extra 25%. Thank you!

  • I do not live in the UK - can I still join you all and hold an Oxfam get together for the Mother Appeal?

It's great you want to join us in hosting an get together for the Mother Appeal. Unfortunately we're unable to post any information overseas, however all our resources will be available to download from our website, and we'll continually be adding to this.
