The Project

This is a new three year phase of the EQUIP project. Up until 2008 we developed the EQUIP model to vastly improve the quality of teaching in Shinyanga. We will now ensure the progress continues. To achieve this, we will develop four new local NGOs – partners who, in the future, will play the role of expert service providers. They will implement activities such as in-service teacher training in Shinyanga districts, and enable the practices to be replicated across Tanzania in the long term.

Project aims

The district authorities have committed to sustain the good work. To ensure the progress continues we will:

  • Establish independent NGOs to manage and promote the good practices initiated by the project
  • Continue to provide and improve in-service training and mentoring for teachers until the new NGOs are established
  • Improve the availability of teaching materials, particularly for children with special needs
  • Improve water and sanitation facilities in schools with the greatest need
  • Encourage teachers to share successful methods
  • Ensure the management of schools and education services is effective and accountable – and promote the progress of girls and women
