Natural disasters wreaked havoc across the East Asia region in October 2009. The Indonesian island of Sumatra was hit by a devastating earthquake while Typhoon Ketsana left a trail of destruction across the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia. Donate now
On the ground
Because of its geography and location, East Asia is one of the most disaster-prone regions in the world.
Oxfam launched immediate responses to help those affected by the earthquake in Indonesia and the devastating flooding in the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia:
Indonesia
Oxfam is tankering in water and distributing temporary shelter materials, hygiene kits and clothing to those worst affected.
Oxfam's emergency response in the Philippines is focusing on public health.
We plan to provide support to 40,000 people in Vietnam affected by Typhoon Ketsana.
Our planned £96,933 aid package is helping support families worst affected with basic essentials.
