Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar (Burma)on 2 and 3 May causing widespread destruction. Tens of thousands of people lost their lives and many more their homes and livelihoods.

Cyclone victims desperately tried to save their belongings from the storm and the floods that followed. This children's family lost their home but were able to save some of their belongings.

Oxfam's local partner organisations held community meetings to consult with those worst affected by the cyclone in order to best address their needs.

Temporary evacuation camps were built by people in the Ayeyarwaddy delta using parts of houses damaged by Cyclone Nargis.

It is estimated that more than a million people have been left homeless. Here, men are assess the damages from the cyclone. They use this analysis to determine the relief items needed for moving on to reconstruction.

We are providing support to women and families by working with the AIDS Alliance and local partners to rehabilitate temporary shelters made of local materials.

Cyclone Nargis and its aftermath will linger as part of Myanmar's history. Food, water, sanitation, shelter, blankets, and medical support remain a high priority for the survivors.
