Esther's choice

Feed your children's minds. Or their hungry bellies.
It’s a choice no parent should have to make.
Meet Esther
Esther Wesh scrapes by selling plastic tubs in Port au Prince, Haiti. She’d be the first to admit it’s a hard way to make a living. But it puts food in front of her hungry boys (17, 15 and 10), and that’s what counts.
Esther’s kids are like teenagers the world over. Determined to get the most out of life. That’s what Esther wants for them too. To feed them up so they’re big and strong. And through school, nurture their appetite for learning.
Esther's problem
But Haiti’s been having a tough time lately. Rising prices (not to mention several hurricanes) have hit the island hard. Esther’s money is buying less and less.
Esther's choice
Esther’s had to take them out of school. It’s not that it costs a lot, but she can’t even afford the pencils they need for class. It breaks her heart, but every last penny has to go on food.
Feeding your children’s bellies. Or feeding their minds. It’s a choice no parent should have to make.
