Video transcript: Oxfam buckets
Oxfam's Awadio Ogillo describes how a distribution of Oxfam buckets to one community has made a difference in more ways than one.
So in this particular community, the buckets were distributed to the community, and we distributed the buckets with the aim of at least safe transportation of water, collection of water, and also storage of water at home.
However, when we talked to the communities, we discovered something that we had not expected. For example, they told us, well now, their daughters can now go to school.
So we are wondering how? And the reason, according to the communities, is that in the morning when the girls go to school, they take the buckets along with them. And mind you, the schools are under trees, there are no seats so the girls use the buckets for sitting. So they sit on them. So the buckets are actually used as seats. And then, on their way home, they take their bucket, they go fetch water, and bring water at home.
So actually the bucket serves so many purposes which to us all were really positive and we’re happy that something like that has happened as an impact of our work.
