Oxfam's work in Colombia in depth
Oxfam has been working in Colombia for more than 25 years. In this country, our work is based around the following issues:
A right to sustainable livelihoods
Our work includes:
- Helping small-scale producers to develop viable long-term futures through improved farming methods, better access to markets and more influence in the decisions which affect their lives.
- Working with social organisations, non-governmental organisations and other partners to encourage agricultural and trade policies that take into account the needs of small-scale producers.
A right to life and security
In the Uraba (Antioqueño and Chocoano) and Catatumbo (Santander) regions we support vulnerable communities that have been displaced because of conflict. We are also providing water and sanitation facilities, whilst additionally improving housing and food security.
We work with others to promote international humanitarian law and national public policies that defend the rights of displaced communities and encourage their protection.
