Oxfam's work in Viet Nam in depth
Gender Equality
Since the ratification of CEDAW (the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women) in 1982, gender equality and violence against women in Viet Nam have become some of the concerns in the national programmes of poverty alleviation.
To support the Government to achieve its goal on gender equality, Oxfam works with the Government and partners to reduce cases of violence against women and to ensure that the national policy on gender equality is reflected in the lives of men and women.
Oxfam supports partners to raises awareness on gender equality and violence against women to address unequal power relations and tackle discrimination. This includes raising the understanding of men and women on domestic violence, consequences of violence on women, and how to prevent violence from occurring. With Oxfam’s support, we facilitate the formation of community clubs to promote friendships and act as a support group for women who are abused by their husbands. Moreover, all of our programmes recognise the rights and needs of both men and women; consequently, Oxfam’s projects in all sectors are designed to meet the needs and rights of both men and women.
