A female machine operator at a medium-sized garment factory is airing her grievances at an AlaRM press briefing in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 14 December 2005. The factory where she worked closed down without any notice due to a lack of orders, and workers in the factory were made redundant and were not paid any compensation. There were huge defaults regarding their statutory dues. This woman has 25 years' experience but is unable to find another job because of her age. Her husband is suffering from a liver ailment and she was the sole breadwinner for their family of four.
