Guest blog by Laura Kerr, Oxfam Glasgow Group Coordinator
I want 2013 to be the beginning of the end of global hunger and I believe that if the G8 leaders take action on four main issues, we can ensure the 1 in 8 people who go to bed hungry every night have enough to eat.
As an Oxfam campaigner, over the past few years I've had the opportunity to campaign at farmers' markets and music festivals. I've also run around London with a tank and been one of 500 George Osborne's in Parliament Square; but the event I have been most excited about is the chance to join 10,000 people in Belfast next month to tell the G8 they must act on global hunger.
The Oxfam Glasgow Campaigns Group have been meeting with MP's, writing to our MSP's, hosting events and attending local festivals all to raise awareness and to encourage others to take action with us in support of the Enough Food For Everyone IF campaign.
With the group, I've been talking about the impact the decisions made at the G8 can have for over 5 months now. I can't wait to join so many fellow campaigners from across the UK in Belfast next month and be part of one final event to show the UK Government and other G8 leaders that we will not stand by and let people go hungry. It is unjust, unfair and completely preventable and it is about time they did something about it!
As a campaigner I am focused on seeing positive results that will improve the lives of people all over the world. There are a lot of people nervously waiting to see the outcome of the G8 and I am one of them. Joining the Big IF Belfast ensures I have one last opportunity to ensure my voice is heard and to make sure G8 leaders know that we are expecting results on 17-18 June.
