About this item
Taken from Speed's seminal 'The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine' first published in 1612. The year shown at the base of the map, 1610, reminds one of the intended time of publication. This is a hand-coloured original. The frame is backed with glass showing the reverse of the double sided page. Featured are maps of Westminster and London, and the cathedrals: Saint Peters (Westminster) and Saint Pauls (prior to the rebuilding by Wren). The map of Middlesex is the central feature. Dimensions 56.5cm x 44cm
