About this item
Water colour signed 'by F. G. Davies 5th Wilts' It shows the badges of 40th Brigade and the constituent regiments Cheshire, The Welsh, South Wales Borderer's and The Wiltshire. Mr Davies was in the Wilts and this picture was either contemporary or done soon after the war.
40th Brigade was part of Kitchener's new army and saw fighting in Gallipoli and Mesopotamia during World War 1. It was formed of the 8th battalion The Cheshire Regiment, the 8th battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers and the 4th battalion the South Wales Borderers and the Wiltshire regiment.
This is a glass and wood framed original watercolour. The frame appears to be original. The external measurements are 54x40 cms, picture size approx 47x35cms. The frame has some damage. The picture appears to not have been removed from the frame since new and appears to be virtually un-marked.
