This book was published in 1805 by H D Symonds of Paternoster Row, London, it is a third edition. The front cover has the words, in gilt, Horticultural Society of Jamaica. The author was Colin Milne. The full title of the book is "A Botanical Dictionary: or Elements of Systematic and Philosophical Botany" The tan leather cover is very rubbed and the corners are bumped, most of the gilt lines around the front cover are still visible. The spine is not in good condition, it is divided into sections, the dividing bars are missing, the title plate is illegible, a large piece of the section below the title plate is missing as are parts of the two lowest sections, the back cover is also rubbed and stained. Internally there is some foxing throughout the book although the heaviest is towards the front and the rear. At the beginning of the book there are three folded pull out pages, they consist of: 1. Ray's Method of listiing, 2. Tournfort's Method of listing, and 3. Analysis of the celebrated Sexual System of Linnaeus. This is followed by the main text of plants in alphabetical order which gives a full description of each plant plus their usage. Towards the back of the book there are 25 full colour plates which have a facing page of description, followed by an Index and a short alphabetical list of plants.
