A Farewell to Arms. First Edition. First Printing

£350.00

Product description

Scribner's, New York, 1929. Hardcover. First edition. A very good copy in black cloth which is lightly rubbed throughout and the paper labels on the front panel and spine show some darkening and wear. The book is tight and square with some toning to the text and a previous owner's bookplate on the front endpaper. Spine is slightly cocked and there is age darkening and spotting to a few page edges. However there are no inscriptions or marks elsewhere

It is a first edition, as evidenced by the publisher's seal on the verso of the copyright page and the absence of a legal disclaimer on the verso of the dedication page.

A very respectable copy of Hemingway's masterpiece, the gripping story of an American volunteer ambulance driver who is wounded in the Italian campaigns in WWI (the first American to be wounded in Italy during the war) and falls in love with his nurse with tragic consequences.
