A Manual of Phonography and Selections from the Best Authors

£19.99

Product description

Two small grey paper back books produced by Isaac Pitman, to be sold together. The first, A Manual of Phonography, was published in 1874, the second, Selections from the Best Authors, was published in 1877. The condition of the first book is poorer than the first, the cover is grubby and worn, but internally it is clean, bright and tightly bound. The second book's cover is cleaner and more intact but internally there is foxing to the front and rear pages of the book. The first book is subtitled 'Or Writing By Sounds' and illustrates the complete system of Pitman's phonetic shorthand. The second book shows pieces of writing by famous people in their shorthand form with a key in longhand below. The usage is for the student of shorthand to try to transcribe the shorthand whilst covering up the longhand key.
