Adventures of a Younger Son - Trelawny

£29.99

Product description

1890. The Adventure Series. New edition with an introduction by Edward Garnet. A mainly fictional account of the life of a British Naval Officer who deserts & seeks adventure in India. Once held to be a true tale of a self styled Pirate's life, modern research found much of the account to be fiction. For instance Trewlany describes himself as deserting, when in fact he was honourably discharged from the Navy in 1812. When first published in 1831 the book was a sensation and Trewlany was hailed as the hero he held himself to be. Includes episodes involving Byron and Shelley.
Red cloth boards with gilt lettering. The decoration on the front cover is indistinct although the colour of the boards is not obviously faded. Top and bottom of the spine is bumped with tiny tears. Tissue guarded frontis of Trelawny. Seven illustrations in total. The seventh is a pull out facsimilie of a letter which is loose from the binding.

Oxfam Books & Music Olney

Welcome to Oxfam Books And Music Olney, situated just off the market square in Stanley Court opposite the Co-Op. Come and browse our extensive selection of books, music, DVDs, computer games and cards. In our shop you can discover a great range of material from the latest modern fiction to classic literature and vintage LPs. We are always happy to receive your donations of books or music, and you can choose to Gift Aid them to Oxfam. We might also be able to collect particularly large donations - just ask. We are always interested in hearing from people who wish to volunteer with us. Just pop in to collect an application form.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
