Privately printed for circulation by Burrup, Mathieson and Company, Plates by A Alexander and Sons, hardcover, 1929, xiii + [i] + 163 pp + 47 pp b/w plates, 4to.

The Merchant Taylors Company has possessed a large collection of ornamental plate from early in its history. This volume seeks to give a full and accurate description of every piece included in the volume and to throw light on the history of the earlier pieces by an examination of Minute Books, Account Books and other documents. Lavishly illustrated with b/w plates.

Very good condition. Handsomely bound in dark blue full leather with gilt bands and lettering to the spine, gilt double frame and company crest to upper board and gilt double frame and decoration to lower board. Leather slightly dull to the spine and top 1 inch of upper board. Slight bumping to corners (boards just visible) and head and tail of spine. Inside gilt dentelles with decorative endpapers. Binding tight. Printed on heavy paper which is slightly toned. TEG, lower/fore edge rough cut with slight darkening to edge of text block. Plates are tissue guarded with creasing to some tissue guards. Overall a lovely copy.
