ART FORMS IN NATURE. Examples from the Plant World photographed direct from Nature.

£85.00

Product description

Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) was a German photographer celebrated by the Surrealists and early modernists for his pioneering close-up images of plants and flora. Trained as a sculptor he was also an amateur botanist, fascinated by the underlying structures of nature. He created his extraordinary catalogue of studies of natural forms as a teaching tool for the benefit of artists, artisans and architects. He received no formal training in Photography and used a home made camera. Nevertheless when his work was published in German in 1928 it created a huge impression.

A Zewmmer hardback with no DJ. Introduction by Karl Nierendorf. 96 plates. This is a 1936 English translation. The boards are slightly grubby. There is a vendor's label on the reverse of the front board. Good binding and no marks.

You can really see how these pictures would appeal to artists, sculptors and designers. Included is a free standing reprint from the Architectural Review of June 1968 entitled "The Bastards of Blandford" by John Adams.
