Barbarian Records - a Complete Record of the Barbarian Football Club 1890-1932

£130.00

Product description

The black cloth boards show only light shelfwear, and the book is internally clean and tightly bound. There is a short inscription in ink on the FFEP, dated 1.4.33. The dust jacket is not price clipped. It is worn at the edges with one or two small tears. The DJ's spine is sunned, and near the top of the spine just above the title, the surface is rubbed through. On page v a date has been neatly crossed through and altered in ink. The preface states that "this handbook has primarily been got together for members, for the purpose of establishing the Club records". The record includes the original 1890 rules for the Barbarian Rugby Football Club, a list of the members, details of matches, players, opposing teams and scores and is illustrated with b/w photos of teams. In the foreword, O L Owen gives a potted history of the club and describes the words inscribed on their flag " Rugby Football is a game for gentlemen in all classes but never for a bad sportsman in any class".
