By Airplane Towards The North Pole

£130.00

Product description

This book is an account of the 1923 flying expedition to Spitzbergen, with the original intention being to then fly northward across the ice-pack to drop a cache of supplies required for Admunsen's traverse of the Polar Circle. However after the expedition had been cancelled, the opportunity was used to take fantastic aerial photographs of the area. Mittelholzer was a Swiss airman, already noted at the time for his photographs taken from airplane in the High Alps.
176 pages including photographic plates and maps.
The book is published by George Allen and Unwin in 1925 (first English edition) and is rarely found complete with dust-jacket. The book is in very good condition with the dust-jacket being in good condition. Damage/wear includes some tearing/holes to dust-jacket (please see in particular photo 4).
