About this item

Complete set of eight volumes produced for subscribers by Cassell & Co, London around 1898. Each volume is profusely illustrated with coloured plates and original drawings. The final volume concludes with the death of William Ewart Gladstone.

All are in good general condition with minor signs of use, foxing mostly at the book end papers and minor bumping and wear of edges. Binding is tight with ll pages and plates present and bound in. No dust jackets. Blue cloth with gold decoration on front and spine and gold page edges all round.

Each volume runs to around 610 (volume one 732) pages and has five coloured plates and around 200 black and white illustrations a few of which are full page. 26x20 cms.
