By Miss Burney. In Two Volumes.
Complete in two volumes, and the final pages of Volume 2 (p.458 to p. 480) include a short account entitled "History of Captain Smith, Pocohontas and John Rolfe".
Published by J. F. Dove in the Dove's English Classics series. Undated, probably 1820-1830 ? Both volumes with engraved title page and frontispiece, and second title page, some foxing, especially to the engraved pages.
A very small octavo, measuring 3.5 x 5 ins.
Half leather and faded lilac cloth, general wear to edges, and Volume I with just under an inch of damage and loss to leather top front hinge. White marks (paint?) to rear hinge area. Inscription to pastedown in both volumes. A tight sound copy, a nice item despite these defects.
Originally published in 1782, this was Fanny Burney's second novel and was a great success, running to over 50 editions.
