£24.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Proust, Marcel
1929 limited edition by Alfred A Knopf. Number 1850 of 2230. No dust jacket. 12mo 352 pages.
Very good condition. Binding and contents sound. Discoloration to edges of the leaves some foxing. Slight discolouration to boards and small stain on front. Top edge grubby.
The first translation into English, by C K Scott Moncrieff. Although there are later and more modern translations of Proust, and Scott Moncrieff’s translation was itself revised in the 1980s and 1990s, this first attempt to make the text accessible to English readers is still considered to have much to commend it. Today this version is considered by many to be a landmark in the art of translation.
This book will appeal to those seeking to complete their set of this edition of Proust.
